Pizza Pot Pies combine the comfort of classic pot pies with the beloved flavors of pizza, wrapped in a flaky pizza dough crust and filled with marinara sauce, melted mozzarella, pepperoni, and Italian herbs for a savory, handheld meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Pizza Dough

  • 1 package refrigerated pizza dough (or homemade pizza dough)

Filling

  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce or pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup pepperoni slices (or your choice of toppings such as sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, olives)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Finishing

  • Olive oil for brushing (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Preheat your oven according to the pizza dough package instructions, usually around 375°F (190°C). Roll out the refrigerated pizza dough on a floured surface and cut into circles or squares large enough to form individual pot pies.
  2. Mix the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the marinara or pizza sauce with dried oregano, dried basil, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir until the spices are well incorporated.
  3. Assemble Pot Pies: Place one dough piece on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spoon a generous amount of the sauce mixture onto the center, then add shredded mozzarella, pepperoni slices, and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.
  4. Seal the Pot Pies: Cover with another piece of dough, pressing the edges together firmly to seal. Crimp the edges with a fork or pinch to ensure no filling leaks out during baking.
  5. Add Finishing Touches: Optionally, brush the tops of the pot pies with olive oil for a golden shine and sprinkle extra Parmesan or Italian seasoning on top.
  6. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the pot pies to cool for 5 minutes before serving to avoid burning from the hot filling. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can customize the filling with any pizza toppings you like, such as sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, or olives.
  • Use homemade pizza dough for a fresher taste and to control ingredients.
  • If you prefer a crispier crust, pre-bake the dough circles for 3-5 minutes before adding filling.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven for best results.
  • For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free pizza dough.
