Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 250 g egg noodles or your choice of noodles
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water or beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook Noodles: Cook the egg noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain thoroughly and set aside to keep warm.
  2. Heat Oil and Brown Beef: In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add 500 g of ground beef and cook, stirring occasionally, until fully browned and cooked through, breaking the meat apart as it cooks to ensure even browning.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: Add the minced garlic and ginger to the browned beef. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until the garlic and ginger become fragrant but not burnt, enhancing the flavor of the beef mixture.
  4. Prepare Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 cup water or beef broth until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is well combined.
  5. Combine Sauce and Beef: Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet with the beef and aromatics, stirring to mix well. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef nicely.
  6. Add Spice: If using, sprinkle in 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes for a subtle heat and stir to incorporate evenly.
  7. Toss in Noodles: Add the cooked and drained noodles to the skillet. Toss everything together until the noodles are fully coated with the savory sauce and mixed well with the beef.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat. Garnish with sliced green onions and optional sesame seeds to add freshness and a nutty crunch before serving hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute beef broth with water for a lighter sauce.
  • Adjust brown sugar to taste if you prefer sweeter or less sweet flavors.
  • Use any type of noodles you prefer such as rice noodles or udon for different textures.
  • For a spicier dish, increase crushed red pepper flakes according to your heat tolerance.
  • To make this dish gluten free, use tamari instead of soy sauce and gluten-free noodles.
