4.5 from 87 reviews

This Cottage Cheese Garlic Naan is a deliciously soft and fluffy Indian flatbread made with a blend of cottage cheese, eggs, and flours, infused with aromatic garlic and finished with a buttery brush and fresh herbs. Perfect as a low-carb, protein-rich alternative to traditional naan, it’s quick to prepare on the stovetop and pairs beautifully with curries or as a tasty snack on its own.

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup cottage cheese (full-fat works best)
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

For Cooking and Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon butter for brushing
  • Chopped parsley or cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Blend Cottage Cheese and Eggs: In a blender or food processor, combine the cottage cheese and eggs. Blend until the mixture is completely smooth and silky, ensuring a seamless dough texture.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, almond flour, baking powder, and salt until thoroughly combined.
  3. Form the Dough: Pour the blended cottage cheese mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently stir until a dough forms; it will be slightly sticky, which is ideal for this recipe.
  4. Add Garlic and Shape Naan: Incorporate the minced garlic into the dough evenly. Lightly flour your hands to prevent sticking, then shape the dough into small balls approximately the size of a golf ball. Flatten each ball into an oval about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Cook the Naan: Heat a non-stick or cast iron pan over medium heat. Lightly brush the pan with butter. Place each naan on the pan and cook for 2–3 minutes on each side until they become golden brown and puffed up.
  6. Finish and Garnish: Once cooked, brush the warm naan with more melted butter and sprinkle with chopped parsley or cilantro if desired. Serve immediately for best taste.

Notes

  • Using full-fat cottage cheese enhances the naan’s texture and richness.
  • You can substitute herbs like chopped mint or dill for parsley or cilantro to vary flavor.
  • The dough will be slightly sticky—avoid adding too much extra flour to maintain softness.
  • For extra garlicky naan, increase the minced garlic to 3 cloves.
  • This naan is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated on a skillet.
