Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour (210g)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk (240ml)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Add-ins and Toppings

  • ½ cup red and green sprinkles (jimmies style; avoid nonpareils)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional)
  • Additional sprinkles for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare the pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan to ensure easy removal of the bread after baking.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, thoroughly whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening agents.
  3. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk the melted and slightly cooled butter with granulated sugar until smooth and well combined. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition to incorporate fully. Stir in the vanilla extract and buttermilk until blended.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually fold the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring gently just until combined. Avoid overmixing to maintain a tender crumb in the baked bread.
  5. Fold in sprinkles: Gently fold in the red and green sprinkles, taking care not to overmix to prevent the sprinkles from bleeding their colors too much into the batter.
  6. Prepare for baking: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Sprinkle the top with coarse sugar and/or additional sprinkles if desired for extra festive texture and appearance.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45–55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the loaf comes out clean, indicating it is fully baked.
  8. Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. This prevents the bread from becoming soggy and ensures it slices nicely.

Notes

  • Do not use nonpareils for the sprinkles as their colors bleed more than jimmies, altering the bread’s appearance.
  • Do not overmix once the dry ingredients are added to preserve the bread’s tender texture.
  • Optionally, use coarse sugar on top for a crunchy crust.
  • Ensure butter is only slightly cooled before mixing to avoid scrambling the eggs.
  • The bread can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for up to a month.
